Guernsey retained the Muratti Vase on Jersey soil for the first time since 2014 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Springfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite long spells of pressure from the hosts, the Sarnians proved clinical when it mattered.

Goals from Ross Allen and Matt Loaring punished a Jersey side left frustrated after missing a string of first-half chances, before Toby Ritzema pulled one back late on.

The Siam Cup once again delivered everything that makes it one of the Channel Islands’ biggest sporting occasions, as thousands packed into Footes Lane for a day filled with fierce rivalry, huge moments and dramatic finishes.

Jersey RFC Women stole the headlines after making history with their first-ever Siam victory on Guernsey soil, edging a tense contest 20-19 to cap off a remarkable season.

Tries from Georgina Ruellan, Laura Turpin, Emily Duncan and player-of-the-match Seren Coombs helped Jersey build an early lead before surviving a late Guernsey fightback.

Captain Katie De La Cloche, playing in her final Siam as skipper, described the victory as “massive” for the club and women’s rugby in Jersey.

Jersey’s 2nd XV also returned home with silverware after a stunning late comeback saw them retain the Fallaize Cup.

Trailing 21-0 at half-time, the Caesareans rallied with three unanswered tries. Nathan Rogers crashed over late on to secure a dramatic draw – enough to keep hold of the trophy.

The Veterans, however, were unable to defend the Nash Cup as Guernsey ran out convincing 61-17 winners in a high-scoring encounter.

In the men’s Siam Cup finale, Guernsey retained the trophy with a 35-28 victory despite a spirited late comeback from Jersey RFC.

The hosts controlled much of the contest early on, with Jersey left to chase the game after falling 18-7 behind at half-time.

Late tries from Fergus Ludlam and Jerry Sexton threatened an unlikely turnaround, but Guernsey held firm to seal another memorable win in front of a packed home crowd.
