Students who have recently returned from universities in Kent and islanders who visited a nightclub linked to the centre of a meningitis outbreak in the county are being urged to contact Jersey’s immunisation team.
Public Health Jersey said the move was a “precaution”, with the risk to Jersey remaining “very low”.
The local health authority is continuing to work closely with the UK Health Security Agency to monitor the recent outbreak of meningococcal disease in Kent.
The number of confirmed meningitis cases linked to the Kent outbreak has fallen from 23 to 20. Nineteen of the confirmed cases are meningitis B, and all have required hospital admission.
More than 8,000 MenB vaccines and 12,157 antibiotics were handed out in Kent last week.
Students returning to Jersey from universities in the county and any islanders who visited Club Chemistry in Canterbury between 5 and 15 March are urged to contact the immunisation team.
This is to ensure that all recommended preventative measures are in place and those affected continue to receive the latest advice and guidance.
