Students heading to university for the first time next month are being urged to ensure they have received both doses of the MenB vaccine before leaving Jersey.
Public Health said first-year university students were at increased risk of meningococcal disease because they were more likely to come into close contact with lots of new people.
Those aged under 25 who are starting university for the first time this year are eligible for a free vaccine protecting against the most common strains of meningococcal B infection.
Students who missed the government’s vaccination clinics have been reassured that there is still time to receive the vaccine before starting university.
It follows the largest and fastest-growing outbreak of menB disease ever recorded in Britain. Two people died during an outbreak in Kent earlier this year, while officials say there have been a higher-than-usual number of clusters of the disease across England in 2026.
