Limited-edition Liberation 80 enamel pin badges are now on sale to mark 80 years since Jersey was freed from German Occupation – with all proceeds going to Age Concern Jersey.
The £2 badges went on sale at the Town Hall this week, and will be rolled out to other Parish Halls after the Easter weekend.
Each parish will have a limited number available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A statement from the Bailiff’s Chambers said: “The badge has been created as a commemorative keepsake for islanders wishing to mark this significant anniversary.
“By purchasing a badge, members of the public can both show their support for Liberation 80 and contribute to a local charity that provides vital support to the island’s older community.”
The badge design features the official Liberation 80 logo, which was originally created in 2020 and is based on the wartime experiences of islander Enid de Gruchy, who was just four years old when Jersey was liberated on 9 May 1945.
Enid, who passed away last year, recalled being given her first sweet by a soldier in St Helier on Liberation Day.
A few weeks later, when food parcels arrived in the island, she received an orange – the first she had ever seen, and something she didn’t know how to eat.
Thanks to support from Butterfield Bank, Liberation 80 badges will also be given to all primary school children free-of-charge.
