A 27-year-old man has been charged with five sexual offences and two assaults after five different women reported being attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Abdelkarim Arfaoui appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning to face nine charges against five alleged victims.

These included one attempted rape, one attempted sexual penetration, one attempted sexual touching, four counts of sexual touching, one common assault, and one grave and criminal assault.

The alleged incidents all took place between 6am and 7.20am in St Helier on Sunday 30 November.

Mr Arfaoui did not enter any pleas during his court appearance this morning, and has been remanded in custody at HMP La Moye.

He will appear in the Royal Court on Friday 6 February.

Detective Inspector Christina Maclennan said: “Please be assured that we will always do our utmost to keep the public safe and act as quickly as possible, as we did in this case with the suspect being arrested within 10 minutes of reporting which is why we urge anyone who is a victim of predatory behaviour or sexual assault to contact the police at the earliest opportunity. If you are in fear, ring 999 at the time.”

The States of Jersey Police are continuing to investigate.
