The annual pension will rise to £16,294 as increases continue to outstrip RPI.

From October, the 4.7% rise will put an extra £14 into the pockets of pensioners who are on the maximum rate.

Social Security Minister Elaine Millar said: “Our pensioners have contributed to Jersey throughout their working lives and it is important that the Old Age Pension continues to provide a strong foundation for old age.”

Jersey’s old age pension is uprated every year at least as much as the RPI figure for June. This year is was 2.8%, meaning this year’s rise is nearly 2% greater than that.

Each week, those receiving a full-rate pension will get £312.48.

Senator Millar added: “This year’s increase will put more than £14 a week (or over £700 per year) into the pocket of someone receiving a full pension.

“We also recognise that pensioners on lower incomes can face particular pressure from healthcare and heating costs, which is why additional support is available through Pension Plus, the Health Access Scheme and the Cold Weather Bonus.

“I would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible for this extra help to check what support is available to them.”

The Pension Plus Scheme is available to lower income pensioners and helps with the costs of dental, optical and chiropody care, and reduced rates to GP and nurse consultations.

The Cold Weather Bonus is available to low-income pensioners in two installments, pegged to the temperature.

Other support for low-income pensioners include a one-off payment at Christmas and a free TV licence for over-75s.
