Originally trained as an electrical engineer, he transitioned into education 21 years ago and later completed an Executive MBA.

Mr Chatfield’s work in digital innovation has also seen him introduce pioneering virtual reality course content into post-16 education.

He has been recognised nationally for his contributions to skills development, receiving the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize at Buckingham Palace for outstanding work in maritime education.

Mr Chatfield said: β€œI am honoured to be joining Highlands College at such an exciting time.

β€œThe college plays a vital role in shaping opportunity, supporting learners of all backgrounds and strengthening the island’s economy.

β€œI am particularly looking forward to working with students, staff and partners to build on the college’s strong foundations, expand technical and professional pathways, and continue to create an inclusive environment where everyone can succeed.”
