A new specialist and complex needs facility currently under construction in Trinity is on track to open in September.
Les Amis aims to open Maison des Amis – also known as Project Trinity – to provide higher-quality nursing care for islanders with learning disabilities or additional needs due to age or dementia.
The site’s progress was showcased to charity patron Lieutenant-Governor Vice-Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd, who recently visited the Rue de Bechet property to meet the architects and site manager.
Phase two of building the five-bedroom facility will see construction work completed before hard landscaping begins.
So far, Les Amis has raised around £3.5 million to purchase the property and carry out the required works.
Managing director Shaun Findlay said: “The work to bring this much-needed facility from the design stage to the point where we can soon start fitting it out is a great achievement for everyone involved in the project.
“Maison des Amis will allow us to provide specialist and end-of-life care, something that we simply cannot do in our group residential homes.
“This is the first facility of its kind in the Channel Islands and will enable us to care for our residents and service users with dignity, continuity and the right level of medical support.”
Les Amis vice-chair Emma Mourant added: “We are extremely fortunate to have a supportive community, but it’s clear that a facility like this has been needed for some time.
“It is thanks to our generous donors and supporters that we have been able to make such rapid progress in getting this facility ready.
“We are on track for the official opening on 17 September, and everyone is looking forward to marking this special milestone.”
