Nine planned clinical procedures were cancelled and a non-emergency air ambulance transfer had to be aborted following drone incidents around Jersey Airport over the weekend.

Patients receiving treatment in England were also unable to return to the Island as planned.

The incidents on Friday and Saturday evenings caused significant disruption to passengers, airlines and airport operations.

Three inbound aircraft were initially diverted on Friday. One was eventually able to land at around 11.45pm, with Jersey Airport remaining open to accommodate its arrival.

A major search involving States and Honorary Police, Channel Islands Air Search, Government colleagues and Ports of Jersey staff followed reports of multiple drones.

Further reports near the airport on Saturday evening prompted police to widen their appeal for help to the whole island.

In a statement issued at 3.45pm today, the government said that “the incidents this weekend have had consequences beyond flight disruption”.

Islanders are being urged to remain vigilant this evening and report any drone sightings to the States of Jersey Police immediately.

The government confirmed that additional measures are in place, but details could not be disclosed for operational reasons.

“Our priority remains public safety, minimising disruption to Islanders and identifying those responsible,” it said.

The government, police, Ports of Jersey and other partners remain alert and prepared to respond to further reports of drone activity.

Alongside the investigation and immediate response, they are reviewing what more can be done to prepare Jersey for future incidents.

Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham described the drone activity as “deliberate and unlawful” and warned those responsible that they should expect to face “the full consequences of the law” if identified.
