There has been “no indication” that any Jersey patients were affected by a fire at Southampton Hospital yesterday, the island’s Health Department has confirmed.
A major incident was declared after the blaze broke out in the endoscopy unit, in the west wing of Southampton General Hospital, at about 5.30am on Sunday 1 February.
More than 200 patients were evacuated from wards, but no-one was injured.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said more than 110 firefighters attended the blaze at its peak.
The fire was brought under control by around 10am yesterday, but services throughout today were expected to be cancelled.
A statement from Jersey’s Health Department said: “We have received no indication that this has affected any patients from Jersey.
“If services to islanders are affected, we will notify them directly, but we are awaiting confirmation from Southampton.”
The statement added that there is “no indication as yet” that services today will be affected.
