Island Energy engineers found “a minor gas escape” that posed no safety risk following an extended search “beyond the perimeter” at Cherry Orchard Court – with no readings discovered that would have required an evacuation of the building.
Emergency services were called to the Valley Road site on Wednesday morning following two separate reports of a smell of gas in the area.
Residents in a block of flats were evacuated from their homes as a “precaution” by the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, while Island Energy gas engineers followed a thorough checking process involving tests using specialist detection equipment.
“No readings were found that would have required an evacuation of the building,” the utility company stated in an update on Wednesday afternoon.
“The team carried out an extended search beyond the perimeter and found a minor gas escape that posed no safety risk, which the team are dealing with.”
Islanders who smell gas or suspect a gas escape are reminded to call Island Energy’s 24-hour emergency line on 01534 755555.
