Jenny – also known as Jenny Wren – went missing from La Grande Route des Augerez in St. Peter, near the aMaizin’ Adventure Park, on the night of 16 April.

Melissa Bonn, Jenny’s owner, explained that Jenny had been let out, with her sister Oriolle, during the evening on Monday 16 April but didn’t come back. “Every now and again the dogs do go off. Normally they are back in the morning or later that night. When Jenny didn’t come back by Tuesday night, we thought it was something else. There were a lot of rabbits out that evening and it was warm. I think the spirit of the hunter got the best of her this time.”

The family first contacted the Animals Shelter and were told of the Jersey Dog Forum, a 6,600 strong Facebook community that has previously been involved in many searches for missing pups. “I don’t really use Facebook so I hadn’t heard about it but it is amazing,” said Melissa. “When you are outside with the dogs, you realise it’s impossible to look everywhere. You need all pair of eyes looking everywhere.” 

A post on the Jersey Dog Forum page about Jenny has been shared over 830 times, with many islanders have been asking for updates in the last few days. Other members of the forum sent their thoughts and offered words of support to Melissa and her family.

The family originally thought that Jenny might have travelled back to their former home in St. Saviour, which they moved out of last year. Melissa however confirmed that her son, who still lives in the house, hasn’t seen any sign of the four-legged companion. “He calls out for her every morning and every morning, but she has not been seen.”

Some possible sightings were reported in St. Aubin last Wednesday and then around the former Shakespeare Hotel in St. Clement on Friday. Melissa however says the family is taking those with a pinch of salt. 

“Jenny is a small Labrador. She is very neat, not overweight at all. She has grey hair around her muzzle so people would be able to recognise her by that. She has a heavy leather collar around her neck with a name tag on it. She is a very friendly dog but because she has been away for a week she might be hiding now.”

Still, the family is not giving up hope of being reunited with their beloved pet, whose sister has been feeling down in her absence. “We have talked to someone who looks after dogs and he said there was no reason to despair. There has been a few sightings and we have searched the area thoroughly. There is a lot of water around and if she is going after rabbits there is plenty for her to eat. Although we are feeling a bit desperate there is still some optimism!

“She is a much loved family dog. My granddaughter adores Jenny and Oriolle. As one knows, dogs are very much part of your family.”
