“Waggy tails and smiles all round” were reported as a five-day quest to reunite an elderly, blind dog with its owner came to a successful conclusion.
The JSPCA confirmed this morning that the missing pet, found in St Brelade on Friday, was back home after the owner came forward and their identity was checked.
In a social media post, the animal shelter acknowledged “a lot of concern and conversation” from islanders, with an appeal being shared hundreds of times and viewed by thousands across the weekend.

“We want to thank everyone who reached out with care and compassion for both the dog and her owner, we are relieved to see a happy ending, with waggy tails and smiles all round,” a spokesperson for the JSPCA said.
“We’d like to take this chance to say a huge thank you to all the vets, agencies, parishes, businesses and to the community, who helped with the search – it’s really shown we have an Island of animal lovers, and we’re grateful for all the support.”
The association said it would not be sharing further details out of respect for the owner of the dog.
After the dog was found close to the Elephant Park and Lavender Farm on Friday, it was briefly in the custody of a veterinary practice before being handed over to the animal shelter.

Initial efforts to trace the owner included St Brelade’s parish hall being opened on Saturday evening in order to access a database, however this did not lead to a breakthrough.
It is understood details of the owner were advised to the JSPCA on Monday, but that the dog remained in the association’s custody until checks had been carried out to ensure the rightful owner had been identified.
The happy ending was shared by the Lost Dogs in Jersey Facebook site. Members of the group, which has 7,400 members, played a central role in the search by sharing information, liaising with connected organisations and house-to-house enquiries.
