This week’s Norman Market has been delayed by a day after adverse weather conditions forced the cancellation of a scheduled ferry carrying traders to the island.

Organisers confirmed the boat due to arrive on Wednesday 13 May was unable to travel, postponing the opening of the popular French-themed market until Thursday morning.

The market, held at the Weighbridge, is now expected to begin trading from 10am on Thursday 14 May and continue through to Sunday 17 May. Organisers said stallholders would remain for the full duration of the event despite the disruption.

Daily opening hours will run from 9am to 6pm, although traders may stay open later depending on visitor numbers. On the final day, shopping will end at 4.30pm.

The Norman Market, organised by Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche, is a long-running event designed to showcase Norman and French produce and culture in Jersey.

Visitors can expect stalls selling cider, crêpes, tartiflettes, cheeses, wines, biscuits, soaps and handmade goods. The market will feature a new trader this year, Clem L’Escale Gourmande from Gouville-sur-Mer in La Manche, who will be serving filled galettes and crêpes.

Organisers also moved to reassure customers over food imports, stating they had been in contact with the States Veterinary Officer, who approved the transport of meat and dairy products after checks on their origin.
