Police said the 42-year-old man had been crossing the road from the La Fregate area towards the RBC building on the Esplanade at 23:24 on Friday when he was struck by a black 125 motorcycle driven by an 18-year-old.

They added that, at the time, a group of motorbikes had been travelling eastwards together when the collision happened.

“just east of the pedestrian crossing” by the Grand Hotel and Spa.

Paramedics treated the pedestrian in the area of the crash – “just east of the pedestrian crossing by the Grand Hotel” – and later took him to hospital, where he received medical treatment.

Police said his injuries were “serious”, but “not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing”.

The teenage motorcyclist suffered “minor” injuries and was taken to A&E.

No arrests have been made, but Police are continuing their investigations into what happened. They spoke to a number of witnesses on the night, but would now like to hear from anyone with dash-cam or video footage covering the area.
