Government spending plans for 2026 and beyond are set to be put under the spotlight at a Question Time featuring the Treasury Minister next month – just one week before the big debate hits the States Assembly floor.

Hosted by All Island Media and chaired by Bailiwick Express editor Fiona Potigny, the event follows the success of previous discussions, ‘Housing… crisis averted?’ and ‘Population… open the doors or pull up the drawbridge?’, both of which drew large audiences and lively debate.

This latest instalment will invite Islanders to quiz a panel of political and business figures on the key proposals shaping Jersey’s financial future – from tax and spending to pension ‘raiding’, health charges and much more.

Audience members will drive the discussion by submitting their own questions, making for an unpredictable evening of frank exchanges and sharp perspectives from across the political and business spectrum.

Treasury Minister Elaine Millar will be joined on the panel by:

  • Deputy Inna Gardiner, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, who will bring her trademark focus on government spending and accountability;
  • Alex Ruddy, Chair of the Institute of Directors Jersey, a chartered accountant and business leader who champions collaboration across the island’s economy; and
  • Ben Shenton, ex-Senator, former Age Concern chair and outspoken JEP columnist known for his straight-talking style and, more recently, robust defence of the Social Security Fund.

The event – – promises a candid, good-humoured and occasionally fiery exchange as some of Jersey’s most experienced and outspoken voices unpack what the Budget really means for Islanders and businesses.
