Kate Taylor has already raised more than £8,000 for Dementia Jersey in advance, and is hoping that tomorrow’s effort as part of a group of swimmers will generate even more funds.
The race is due to start at Fliquet Bay this morning, with participants swimming a 14-mile relay race to Carteret.
The group has so far smashed its fundraising target of £20,000, with the overall total standing at more than £23,400 at the time of writing.
Ms Taylor’s fundraising total includes a “generous” £5,000 donation from friend Jacquie Butlin, on behalf of the Butlin Charity Trust.

Ms Taylor, who appeared in both series of the ITVBe reality TV programme, said: “I am doing this challenge for my lovely mum, who has always been by my side over the years and who is living with dementia; and to raise awareness of dementia locally.
“Having a family member with dementia affects not only the person with the condition, but their family and loved ones too.”
