NSPCC Jersey’s contest saw entrants from both Bailiwicks send in pictures of their pups.
The category winners were announced this week, with each awarded a £25 voucher and rosette courtesy of sponsors Collas Crill.
The fundraiser was part of a 26-week challenge set by the charity, which aimed to bridge a gap in funding caused by the pandemic.
Overall, the show generated over £200.
Here are the winners, and what the judges had to say…
Best in Show
“He’s simply gorgeous and everyone loves him, especially the children at the primary school who are opposite to where I live,” owner Louise Bamber said of winner Gizmo (11), who also scooped ‘Best Rescue Dog’.
“He doesn’t chase balls and doesn’t like toys but is more than happy to chase a horse down the beach, so he is a great character.”
Head Judge and NSPCC fundraiser Julie O’brien described him as a “cute little chap”, who “showed his cheeky nature and stood out.” He was also praised for his “show-stopping ears.”
Best Puppy
Little Pepsi one was praised by the Head Judge as having “beautiful colouring, clear eyes and just the most adorable look.”
Funniest Dog
“Coco looked to be extremely content in his picture, he looked delighted to be carried why his owner,” judge Julie observed.
Best Veteran
A natural before the camera, veteran Honey was praised for her “very relaxed” stance.
It was also noted that, at 14, the “healthy” dog looks “younger than her years.”
Dirtiest Dog
“I don’t think anyone can argue with how happy Lua looked to be in the mud,” Julie pointed out.
Best Owner Lookalike
Speaking of why this pair took the top spot, the Head Judge commented: “Ruby and Richard looked meant for each other.”
