JCP Year 2 Ophelia (front) and Friends raise funds for Caring Cooks Picture: DAVID FERGUSON

A seven-year-old schoolgirl is rallying her classmates once again to help spread Christmas cheer while supporting families in need.

After the success of her first charity market in aid of Caring Cooks last year, Ophelia Goldsborough, a Year 3 pupil at Jersey College Prep and the youngest unofficial ambassador of Caring Cooks, is leading the return of ‘Ophelia’s Jingle Mingle Market’ where pre-loved children’s books, toys and clothes will be resold to raise funds for the charity’s Food and Fuel Voucher initiative.

The seven-year-old has already become a prolific fundraiser for the food support charity, having donated all her birthday money last year as well as hosting a Lego-building competition in April.

The second ‘Ophelia’s Jingle Mingle Market’ will return to Haute Vallée School on Thursday 30 November.

Like previous events, the youngsters from JCP will be raising money for Caring Cooks’ Food and Fuel Voucher initiative, which helps local families with vouchers for essential items in winter.

The children are particularly keen to collect donations of children’s books, toys and clothes.

Posting about the event on social media, Ophelia’s mum, Denise Heavey encouraged Islanders to donate goods and/or attend the event.

“Let’s come together once again to make a difference and help Ophelia and her friends bring warmth, kindness, and joy to our community this Christmas”, she wrote.
