A search for the owner of an elderly dog which was found in St Brelade was continuing this morning… officially at least.

Hundreds of islanders had expressed concern about the blind female dog, found near the Elephant Park on Friday, ahead of an update from the ‘Lost Dogs in Jersey’ Facebook page yesterday evening.

The social media post said the dog’s owner had been located “safe and well”, but a spokesperson for the JSPCA told Express that the search was continuing. It is understood that checks are taking place to establish the ownership of the dog.

After the dog was found, it was briefly in the custody of a veterinary practice before being handed over to the JSPCA.

Initial efforts to trace the owner included St Brelade’s parish hall being opened on Saturday evening in order to access a database, however this did not lead to a breakthrough.

The initial Facebook post about the dog was shared almost 500 times and reached thousands of users.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the JSPCA on 01534 724331.
