Businesses eligible for support through the Better Business Skills Grant can now claim up to 80% of training costs for applications made in 2026 as part of bolstered efforts to help firms invest in their workforce.

The change, which marks a notable increase from the previous 50% funding model, will also automatically apply to any businesses that have already submitted a Skills Grant application for this year.

The initiative was first made available in 2025 through the government’s £20m Better Business Support Package, aimed at helping employers manage the transition to a living wage.

More than £5m was allocated to the Better Business Grant in both 2025 and 2026, to support a wide range of training – including the development of leadership, management, professional and technical skills.

Last year, 54 local businesses received Skills Grants totalling £311,210.

Jennie Smith, head of business support at Jersey Business, said: “Skills are critical to productivity and long-term business success.”

She added: “Increasing the level of support available through the Skills Grant makes it easier for businesses to invest in their people and build the capability they need to grow.”

Organisations can apply for up to two Skills Grants per year.
