On Saturday 29 July, swimmers will make the 14-mile stretch from Fliquet Bay on Jersey’s north coast to Carteret in France with the aim of raising funds for Dementia Jersey.

In 2022, the Jersey-France Challenge raised over £15,000 for Dementia Jersey.

Entry for the challenge is open to swimmers and teams of all abilities. The teams will be in mixed sizes of three to six participants.

Following the swim, there will be a celebration in France and participants are invited to stay overnight to share achievements and stories with other participants and event organisers.

Event Organiser and long-distance swimmer, Simon O’Donoghue said, “Wow, how good was last year’s event? We tried something new last year, in swimming to France and people loved it, so we are taking on the challenge again this year and expect to welcome our largest number of swimmers to date.”

Dementia Jersey’s Chair, Chris Renouf, said: The money raised will make a huge difference to islanders in Jersey living with dementia and means we can continue to provide life-changing support to them, their families, and carers.
