Two vehicles – a small red van and a dark grey Audi – were involved.
The tunnel was closed from just before 4pm, according to States of Jersey Police, and the closure resulted in tailbacks around the Green Street area.
Signs warned drivers of oil on the road, as the vehicles were removed.
Officials were seen gritting the road.
