Islanders are being encouraged to take part in a coastal charity trail run next weekend to raise money for a local baby loss charity.

Now in its seventh year, the annual Seymour Sprint and Seymour Stroll is held in support of Philip’s Footprints – a local charity that supports bereaved families and provides funding for health professional training, antenatal equipment and information on safer pregnancies to reduce stillbirth and premature birth rates.

This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday 16 May from Longbeach at Gorey.

Participants will have three options: a 10km trail run across wetlands to Seymour Tower, a shorter 6km “dry feet” route which follows the beach to Seymour Slip and back, or a 6km stroll.

The event, which has previously raised over £16,000 for Philip’s Footprints, is open to families, children and dogs.

The Seymour Sprint was created and organised by Helier de Veulle, who lost his first-born daughter Katherine in 2007 when she was stillborn at full term.

He has been a staunch supporter of Philip’s Footprints since it was established the following year.

Helier created the Seymour Sprint to boost his charity fundraising for the 2020 London Marathon.

The marathon was cancelled due to the pandemic – but the coastal run went ahead, and has been going strong every year since.

Helier said: “You can expect wet feet, big smiles and an unforgettable route. Whether you’re racing or strolling, it’s all about enjoying the experience and supporting a fantastic cause.”

Children aged eight and above are welcome to run if they are accompanied by an adult, whilst participants aged 14+ may run unaccompanied. The stroll is open to all ages.

Philip’s Footprints founder Jo Nash said: “We are delighted to have the Seymour Sprint as part of our annual fundraising calendar.

“It’s a unique event set in a beautiful part of Jersey, and we look forward to seeing the community come together once again in support.”
