Hundreds turned out at St Matthew’s Catholic church to pay their respects to 61-year-old Alan Le Brocq.
And according to friends, Mr Le Brocq was given a send-off that would have made him proud.
His coffin was loaded onto a construction lorry – in a cortege that also included a heavy lifting crane and jeep – and seen off by fellow builders.
Long-term friend, and fellow construction industry boss, Stephen Regal led the tributes in church and described Mr Le Brocq as a character who’d lived life to the full.
