A Royal Navy warship that was involved in the recent seizure of a sanctioned ‘shadow fleet’ oil tanker arrived in Jersey today on a two-day visit.

HMS Ledbury, a Hunt-class minehunter, is understood to be in the Island in an unofficial capacity to give the crew some shore leave.

On Sunday, the ship supported Royal Marine Commandos and UK National Crime Agency officers as they took control of MV Smyrtos, which was the first UK-led seizure of a Russian shadow fleet vessel.

The tanker, carrying more than 100,000 tonnes of Russian crude oil to India, was taken to anchorage off Portland under escort by HMS Ledbury and frigate HMS Sutherland.
