GALLERY: Jersey pilot stops by in last-of-its-kind wartime flying boat

The Canadian-built flying boat, with a Jersey-born pilot at the controls, is the only flying Catalina left in Europe and one of only 12 left flying in the world. She is 80 years old and based at Duxford.

The aircraft, G-BPYA, is owned by 20 enthusiasts who have formed a company to display it at air shows.

Today, the former reconnaissance and, post war, fire-fighting aircraft was flown by one of its owners, Captain John Harmsworth, who was born and raised in Jersey and recently retired from Cathay Pacific.
