I think Guernsey has missed an opportunity to revolutionise the electoral process, promote the island, bring voting into the digital age, and simultaneously avoid complaints about inadequate hustings and street walking order electoral rolls.

The idea is that all candidates be accommodated on Lihou for the next month and the event be live-streamed, with discussions on topics of vital interest, plus the necessity to demonstrate local credentials eg the cooking of beanjar, singing of Sarnia Cherie, and most importantly participating in trials nominated by the electorate such as collecting and eating raw limpets.

The event will be compered by our own ‘Ant and Dec’ ie ‘Jess and Rick’ (the Deputy Bailiff and Bailiff).

At the end of each day a candidate will be ejected by the electorate – and have to make their own way off Lihou at high tide.

When we are down to 38 we have the required number who will, at least, have demonstrated they are able to remain in situ together for a certain amount of time and, therefore, able to work together.

The event is called “I’m a candidate, get me out of here!”
