Guernsey’s football stadium at Victoria Park is more than 270 miles from Anfield, home to the mighty Liverpool FC.

So under normal circumstances, the appointment of a new Liverpool manager wouldn’t class as local news here on the island.

But could the choice of manager pave a way for Guernsey’s Alex Scott to join the six-time European champions?

Liverpool announced they’d reached a verbal agreement for Andoni Iraola to be their new manager on Tuesday evening, following the departure of Dutchman Arne Slot at the weekend.

Until last month, the highly-rated Spaniard was manager of Scott’s current club, Bournemouth, and was credited with developing the 22-year-old midfielder and helping him break into the England squad.

Rising star Scott had already been linked with several top clubs including Liverpool and new managers often bringing tried-and-trusted players with them to their new clubs.

So could the former Guernsey FC player be about to join England’s most-successful football team?

Several football pundits and journalists definitely think so.

Liverpool Echo encouraged Iraola to “put his faith” in Scott, despite a potentially high transfer fee, even calling him an “upgrade” on Argentinian World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

Meanwhile The Mirror suggested Iraola might have to “act quickly” to secure Scott’s signature, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea also rumoured to be interested.

Manchester United might be a tempting option for Scott, whose cousin – and former St Martin’s AC teammate – Maya Le Tissier is captain of the club’s women’s team.

However, rejoining Iraola on Merseyside – not to mention the wealth of talent Liverpool have in the squad – could prove too compelling to turn down.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are said to be keen to hold onto the talented youngster for a least another season, having qualified for Europe for the first time in their history.

With the transfer window open until September and a set of pre-World Cup friendlies in Florida to prepare for Scott can afford to take his time deciding his next move.
