The Guernsey Ladies had two matches to overcome at the new home of Guernsey football, both of which could be seen as a rousing success.
In the first match of the weekend, Guernsey Ladies lost out on points for the first time this season, as Rozel Rovers scored in injury time to even up the sides, after an opening goal from Captain Candace Bougourd, where she wrote her name in the history books as the first GFC Ladies player to find the net at Victoria Park.
The second game was much more in keeping with the usual run of form for the Lionesses with a resounding win over Jersey Wanderers FC.
The 8-0 score at the end of their second game of the weekend included the first ever hat trick at the new ground, as Gracia van Zutphen also wrote her name in the history books.
She did it in style too, not content with the first ever hat trick, van Zutphen went on to score five of Guernsey’s eight goals.
The result was a continuation of how Guernsey’s has performed in the march to becoming JFA league champion. With only one instance of dropping points, all eyes will now be on their first full season at Victoria Park, and the chance to retain the title in the 2025/26 season.
Meanwhile in Guernsey FC’s fight for survival in the Isthmian League, the Green Lions picked up much needed points with a close game at their new home, on Sunday.
They overcame Southall by a single goal scored by Sam Murray in the 76th minute, and what a crucial goal it may turn out to be.
The Sarnians’ remain in the drop zone, but only need three points to put them level with Southpark Reigate, although the English side have a much better goal difference (-18/-36).
With a possible nine points left up for grabs, this win could prove to be the turning point in the Sarnian’s season.
The Green Lions are next in action against promotion chasing Kingstonian, at Victoria Park on Easter Monday, (21 April), with kick off at 14:00.
