This weekend’s match could prove to be a crucial one for the Green Lions as they host the Metropolitan Police at Footes Lane.

Having faced disappointment last weekend when their away game was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch at Raynes Park Vale, Guernsey FC will be looking to break an unwanted record against this Saturday’s visitors to Footes Lane.

The Green Lions have never secured all three points against the Metropolitan Police, with a solo point coming home to Guernsey after their last meeting.

As the sides prepare to face each other again, the outlook for both is similar with each needing the win to put some safety between themselves and a potential relegation scrap.

Both have reasons to be nervous, and to be cocky.

The home side may be lacking in the points department, sitting 19th in the table with 25 points, just 11 more than Badshot Lea who are 22nd and bottom, but they do have the opportunity to pick up points through the number of games in hand still to play.

Guernsey FC have only played 28 games this season so far, while everyone else around them has played 31, except for this weekends opponents who have already played 32.

Despite playing four more games than the Green Lions, the Met Police only sit two places and six points higher in the league ahead of tomorrow’s crucial game.

Pictured: The table is congested at the bottom, but Guernsey do have the joint most games-in-hand of anyone in the league, equal with Hanworth Villa (8th), Raynes Park Vale (6th), Kingstonian (2nd) and Farnham Town (1st).

The Green Lions shouldn’t count their chickens before they hatch though.

The Met Police have a slightly better goal difference, and on the three previous occasions they’ve met Guernsey have yet to pick up a win, with one loss and two draws so far.

This weekend will see the Green Lions determined to finally claim three points against the police side, knowing that their survival in the Isthmian South Central Division is at stake over the coming weeks.

Kick off is at 2pm.
