The Chairwoman and founder of the Guernsey Women’s Golf Development Squad, Angela Goddard has been shortlisted for a national award.
The England Golf Women & Girls Trailblazer award is an accolade that recognises efforts to address under-representation in the sport.
The winner is due to be announced on 3 March in Manchester.
Speaking on her nomination, Ms Goddard said she was “incredibly proud” of the community, and “delighted” to see Guernsey recognised nationally for its commitment to women’s and girls’ sport.
In 2019, Ms Goddard established the GWGDS to provide a structured pathway for female players of all skill levels.
She later launched the Girls into Golf Squad, (GIGS), specifically designed for players under the age of 18.
These initiatives have led to over 90 women and girls participating in golf regularly, with a further 200 reached through community outreach and taster sessions.
The programmes aim to foster collaboration between Guernsey’s various golf clubs to improve confidence and long-term participation across the island.
