Saturday’s game – which pitted the Raiders against a side facing relegation, and one they hadn’t faced since 2017 – ended in a narrow defeat for the home side.

While the Sarnian’s missed out on the chance to gain ground on the teams ahead, visitors Colchester moved up from the bottom of the league after their win by just two points.

Prior to kick off, Colchester had sat bottom of the table having only picked up one win from their previous 18 attempts. They are very much seen as contenders for the drop.

Guernsey looked favourable ahead of the competition by comparison.

They had two games in hand on the teams ahead, and weren’t at risk of dropping places, sitting comfortably mid-table, in 8th.

With one team fighting for survival and the other with mild-ambitions of a late season push, it was always going to be a tough one to predict, and those that tried may have had a few heart flutters as the game drew to a close.

With two points separating the sides, it ended in a close fought match which paid dividends for the UK visitors.

There were also commendations for club personnel, with Anthony Armstrong picking up his 150th appearance for the club.

With a win Colchester move off the bottom of the table, leaping over Worthing on points difference, whilst Guernsey stay firmly in eight place, with a point and a game in hand on Bury St Edmunds in ninth.

The Raiders remain just three points behind Old Albanians ahead, with a game in hand compared too.
