Guernsey Raiders RFC swapped tries for trowels helping the GSPCA with a range of tasks at the animal shelter.
Coach Jordan Reynolds brought his team to the GSPCA’s grounds to carry out some much-needed work.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said: “It was fantastic to welcome the Guernsey Raiders RFC to the GSPCA.
“Nearly 30 players and their coach gave up their Sunday morning and achieved an incredible amount in just a few hours.
“As a Raiders fan myself and a regular supporter at games, it was especially lovely to see the team helping out in such a practical way.”
After a short introduction to the charity by Mr Byrne, the team split into smaller groups and got to work.
They built pathways and natural fencing, repaired aviaries, painted fences and trimmed hedges to maintain the charity’s site where it cares for hundreds of animals.
The team worked hard completing important tasks and making memories along the way.
One player made friends with Hilda, the GSPCA’s 90-year-old tortoise.
Another got locked in the aviary before being saved by his teammates.
After a productive morning, the team was given a tour of the GSPCA, giving the players an insight into an operation which helps thousands of animals every year.
They met kittens, baby hedgehogs and other animals in its care.
My Byrne added: “The players worker incredibly hard in very warm conditions and approached every task with great energy and good humour.
“We are hugely grateful for their support and hope they enjoyed seeing behind the scenes and meeting some of our animals, especially Hilda the tortoise who certainly seemed to enjoy making some new friends.”
