Guernsey’s Women Triathlon Team earnt the island’s first gold medal in Orkney.

With a standout performance from Hannah Kennedy, 18, finishing in second place alongside strong performances from teammates Amy Critchlow (5th), Chloe Truffitt (7th), and Lindsay Sword (8th), saw Guernsey take gold in the Women’s team event.

Guernsey Men’s Triathlon Team also did enough to earn a spot on the podium earning a bronze medal to add to the Guernsey tally.

The team event consisting of the Island’s quickest three times, a combined time of 6:40:45 from Ethan Woodhead (7th), David Mosley (13th), and Ovie Svjestup (19th) saw the Sarnians secure third place.

Meanwhile, Kennedy put in an excellent performance at Stromness Harbour to come second in the women’s individual triathlon to earn Guernsey their first silver medal of the games.

Kennedy missed out on gold by two and a half minutes, with an impressive time of 2:22:45.

After participating in swimming at the home Island Games two years ago, Kennedy transitioned into the world of triathlon. Doing so, she presented plenty of promise towards her chances in this year’s Island Games.

The 18-year-old has proved her worth in Orkney by taking home the silver medal in a field of 23 racers.

Beaten only by Orkney’s gold medalist, Claire Rendall, Kennedy put Guernsey’s first silver medal on the board. Clara Isaac from the Isle of Man finished in third place to earn bronze.
