At lunchtime, on the second day of competition at the 2025 Island Games, Guernsey is sitting in fifth place on the medal table.

So far Sarnian athletes have won four medals.

The opening ceremony took up day one of the Games Week in Orkney with the sporting events starting on day two, Sunday.

Three of the Sarnian medals were won by Guernsey’s triathletes on day one of competition.

The Guernsey women won the team gold, while the men’s team won bronze.

Hannah Kennedy came second in the women’s event to claim the women’s individual silver medal.

At the athletics track, Vicky Hancock broke a 20 year standing Guernsey record to win bronze in the triple jump.

Team Guernsey has medal hopes with the squash and lawn bowls competitions also getting underway and continuing today.

Alderney and Sark are among the 12 islands that have yet to secure any medals but both have hopes in their respective competitions.

Sark’s archers; Kevin Adams and Elizabeth Norwich are both competing today in the Recurve category.

Alderney’s runner Benjamin Mutua is in the men’s 10,000m final later today, while Charmain Johnson competes in the javelin this afternoon too.

Alderney’s Barbara Burton and Susan Wood are making progress in the bowls competition which continues throughout the week.
