Roy Everitt, who travelled over to the UK in anticipation of the challenge this week, says he hopes to not only use the challenge to keep fit but to raise funds for Dementia Jersey.

Starting this Sunday 8 September, Roy, his brother-in-law and three friends, will start their journey which should take them the best part of three weeks if they manage to ride 100km everyday.

As his mother-in-law suffers from vascular dementia, Roy starts his challenge to coincide with World Alzheimer’s month and hopes to raise £1,000.

He said: “This isn’t my first big trip and it won’t be my last, although I think it might be the hardest!

“I love cycling, and I’m so happy I can raise awareness and money for a very good cause while I’m doing it.”
