Coach crash leaves 18 treated for minor injuries

Tuesday 03 September 2019

18 holidaymakers had to be treated in hospital today following a coach crash in St Brelade.

It happened just before 10:40 at the top of Mont Les Vaux, near the junction with Mont Arthur.

Police say the 59-year-old driver was suddenly taken ill at the wheel, leading to the Waverley coach hitting a wall.

It was carrying around 40 tourists, 18 of whom needed to be treated for minor injuries, with two taxis helping to ferry the injured to hospital - none of them was seriously hurt.

The condition of the driver has not been confirmed, or the nature of what's being officially described as a "medical episode."

Police say the road was opened again at around 13:00.

Waverley Coach Tours said the holiday makers were on an island tour, and those on board were all taken back to their accommodation after the incident, and offered other dates if they wanted to continue the excursion.
