Your chance to quiz the Treasury Minister tonight

Tuesday 24 March 2015

The man in charge of States finances and taxes is appearing at the latest “Any Questions” event in Grouville tonight – and he’s one of a five-strong panel due to take questions from the public.

Treasury Minister Alan Maclean is on the panel for event at Grouville Parish Hall from 7.30 pm tonight, along with Grouville Constable John Le Maistre, Reform Jersey’s Anne Southern, tech entrepreneur Mark Loane of C5 Alliance and marketing expert Dara Lutes of marketing agency Marcom.

The monthly event is run by political action group change.je, and aims to create an open public forum for members of the public to ask questions of politicians and encourage debate between States Members, Islanders, campaigners and business leaders.

The first event saw Chief Minister Ian Gorst propose a new student loans programme to support young people going to university, and the last one in St Clement saw a packed Parish Hall attend to hear from a set of panellists including the Education Minister.

James Rondel, Head of Communications for chang.je said: “It is very encouraging to see the attendance at our monthly ‘Any Questions?’ event growing in numbers – with just short of 100 attending in St Clement. It is a clear indication that there is an appetite for dynamic and open political debate in the Island.”

Christian May, founder of change.je said that he hoped the strong panel would encourage a good turnout and debate.

He said: “We have a very diverse panel with ranging political and personal views for the Grouville event. Combined with the fact that members of the public will be able to put their questions directly to the Treasury Minister, I am sure we will see some very interesting discussion and debate.”
