Guernsey Airport has announced the introduction of two new on-site car hire providers, through Hertz and SIXT.
These companies will now have desks directly within the airport terminal and dedicated fleets of vehicles based at the airport.
The decision to bring in Hertz and SIXT was made by Guernsey Ports following a “competitive tender process”.
Hertz is a well-established global car rental company that already has a local franchise in Guernsey, whilst SIXT, another international rental firm, is a new entrant to the Guernsey market.
Both are operated by local companies with Hertz operated by Trust Ford Guernsey, and SIXT by Van Mossel Jacksons.
With two established providers, visitors will have more options when it comes to renting vehicles at the airport, with those behind the move expecting it to foster competition, potentially leading to more competitive rental prices.
That’s a point that Guernsey Port’s commercial project manager, David Buddery, was keen to emphasise in announcing the news.
“We are confident our new car hire providers will fully meet the needs of islanders, the local hospitality sector and the travelling public.
“Both businesses are internationally-recognised, trusted brands with decades of industry expertise, who are committed to providing excellent service levels that will enable visitors to make the most of their time in Guernsey.”
Mr Buddery continued: “The new concessions will also result in additional revenue for Guernsey Ports. This project is one of several initiatives that are underway to both improve the customer experience and diversify our income streams.”
