Martyn Bourgaize has retired after 41 years’ working at Beau Sejour – having clocked up 15,088 days working at the Leisure Centre since 1983.
Known to colleagues and friends as ‘Bougs’, he was praised for his “dedicated service” when he retired in April.
“He has seen it all, done it all – and mostly fixed it all,” said Sam Herridge, Head of Recreation Services.
“Since 8 December 1983, Martyn has been a constant and reassuring presence, not
just at Beau Sejour, but also at Footes Lane, Fort Le Marchant Rifle Range and
Delancey Park. Over the decades he has seen many changes – not least, four changes
of Committee and Government Structures.

“However, one thing has always remained constant: his commitment to providing excellent service, ensuring customer needs are always met. He has seen it all, done it all – and mostly fixed it all!”
Among the milestones that Bougs recorded during his 41 year career, he was involved with 12 Siam Cups, six Royal Visits, 11 Youth Games, five Muratti Vases, three Island Games and two Classic Car and Vintage Motor Shows, to name just a few.
A qualified electrician by trade, he moved to working at Beau Sejour after thinking “I’d really like to work here” while working for a sub-contractor at a Trades Show at the Leisure Centre in the early 80s.
Starting his Beau Sejour career as an Electrician and Duty Technician, his other roles have included Technical Foreman, Technical Officer, Technical Services Manager, Centre Manager and in most recent times Project/Programme Manager.
