Geriatric care specialist, Dr. Ruth Copeland has taken up her new position as a Partner at the Medical Specialist Group.
She previously worked as a consultant geriatrician in the UK, but wanted to return to her home island after starting her medical career.
The geriatric care specialist is one of five partners in the MSG’s 40-strong partnership, who chose to move back to the island where they grew up after studying and developing their careers in the UK.
Before joining the MSG in 2023, Dr Copeland was a consultant geriatrician at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, one of England’s largest teaching hospitals.
Announcing her addition to the partnership, Dr Copeland said she is thrilled.
“Having grown up in Guernsey, it is rewarding to return home and contribute to a partnership dedicated to providing excellent healthcare to our local community.

“As a geriatrician, I am really passionate about developing new services through the MSG to meet the evolving needs of our island, particularly as our population ages.Supporting and enhancing the health of older people on the island is a key priority for me, and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues and partners at the MSG, as well as HSC, to meet this important challenge.
“As a local, ensuring that the MSG continues to provide high quality care holds special significance for me. This is the partnership that has cared for and will continue to care for my family, friends and local community for many years to come.”
Dr Michelle Le Cheminant, the MSG’s Deputy chair, said it is great to welcome local specialists to the Partnership.
“I am extremely proud to see another local woman commit to the MSG partnership. With her expertise in geriatric medicine and determination to continue expanding her knowledge, Dr Copeland will be a huge asset to our community.”
