John Curran has been appointed Chairman of Guernsey’s Data Protection Authority.

Mr Curran, who is succeeding Richard Thomas CBE in the role, currently serves as Chairman of the Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authorities, and the Guernsey Employment Trust.

ODPA Commissioner Brent Homan stated that Mr Curran’s experience with regulatory frameworks and complex legislation will be invaluable to the role.

“We are delighted to welcome John as Chairman of the Authority. He brings extensive experience of working within regulatory frameworks, alongside a strong track record in interpreting and applying complex legislation.

“He also has a long-standing commitment to public service in the island, which will be invaluable in this role.”

Mr Thomas, who has led the DPA since 2018, is stepping down for family reasons but remains on the board.

Commissioner Homan credited Mr Thomas’ tenure with advancing data protection standards in the Bailiwick.
