Key challenges and opportunities facing the retail sector will be surveyed to prepare the sector for upcoming discussions with the States, including over GST.

The Guernsey Retail Group is urging all retailers to participate in the survey which will help draw up a new strategy.

It follows public questionnaires from the representative body on the use of town and other shopping areas in the community.

Malcolm Woodhams, GRG Director, said: “Our local industry forms a significant part of Island life, employs more than 3,500 people and as the fifth highest contributor by sector, makes a substantial contribution to our community and economy.

“This survey will provide us with necessary data on the sector’s current state and for collecting information directly from retailers of all sizes on their current health and challenges.

“This is the opportunity to share and have their voice heard. The more responses we receive, the stronger and more representative our case will be when engaging with government and other stakeholders. Crucially, it will also give us the insight we need regarding concerns or opportunities relevant to all.”

The Group has already emailed out the survey to its members, with submissions required before 17 September.
