The B2026 WCI Our Race for Life has raised an incredible £27,000, thanks to the generosity and support of communities across Guernsey and Sark. Helping Guernsey Patients Beat Cancer

The annual event, proudly sponsored by BWCI Group, brings together communities across the islands to raise vital funds that support all cancers. Thanks to BWCI’s sponsorship, every pound raised goes directly to funding research in a highly respected laboratory at Southampton University, helping to drive significant advances in cancer treatment and care.

The majority of local cancer patient referrals are made to Southampton, meaning islanders, along with patients across the UK, benefit directly from the pioneering work being undertaken there and at other Cancer Research UK-sponsored laboratories.

Each year, BWCI Our Race for Life shines a spotlight on a different type of cancer to help raise awareness and encourage important conversations around prevention, early detection and treatment.

This year, participants wore navy blue to support and raise awareness of colon cancer, which affects the colon and rectum, part of the large intestine. The colour served as a visual symbol to encourage awareness of the disease, promote early detection and highlight the importance of preventative measures, including regular screening procedures such as colonoscopies.

As headline sponsor, BWCI is proud to support an event that has such a meaningful impact across the island community.

Erin Bisson, Senior Manager from BWCI said: “Supporting a local event that touches so many people is incredibly inspiring for BWCI and our people. We are honoured to be able to sponsor BWCI Our Race for Life, enabling more money to go directly to Cancer Research UK – Guernsey Branch and helping to fund life-changing research that benefits so many people, both locally and beyond.”

The event also celebrated some outstanding individual fundraising achievements across both islands, participants demonstrated incredible generosity and commitment to the cause.

This year’s top fundraisers were:

  • Kristina Southern & Dave Cocksedge (Sark) – £1,870
  • Charlotte Moore (Guernsey) – £1,030
  • Natalie Tighe (Sark) – £804.50
  • Karen Archenoul (Guernsey) – £737.50

The achievements in Sark were particularly remarkable. Despite having just 35 participants registered, the island community made an extraordinary contribution, with two of the four highest individual fundraisers coming from Sark. It is a powerful reminder that even a small community can make a significant impact when people come together behind a shared cause.

The organisers would like to extend their sincere thanks to every participant, volunteer, sponsor and every person who donated to this year’s event.

Natalie Tighe, Lead Organiser for Sark, said: “The Sark event is such a fun day out and a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together for an important cause. We are incredibly grateful for the support, generosity and donations from the Sark community, which continue to make a huge difference. With a later start time planned for next year, we’re hopeful that even more people from Guernsey will venture over to take part in the Sark event and experience what makes it so special.”

Bryan Lean, Chairman of Cancer Research UK added: “We are incredibly grateful to the community for their support in making this event so popular. The money raised supports the one in two people who will be affected by cancer during their lifetime. This is incredibly important work that will save many lives, and every contribution helps us move closer to beating cancer. Together we are helping Guernsey patients beat cancer

The team is already looking ahead to next year’s event and encourages everyone to save the date.

BWCI Our Race for Life 2027 will take place on Sunday 16 May 2027 at Rovers Football Club.

Together, we can continue to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
