BWCI has agreed to back the locally organised ‘Our Race for Life’ in a three-year sponsorship deal.

The island’s much-loved fundraising event replaced the former Race for Life event in 2022 after Cancer Research UK decided to withdraw from organising its national event in Guernsey that summer.

The local event – created by Dani Barnett – has replaced it with increasing levels of support each year since.

When it returns in May 2026, it will be branded as the BWCI Race for Life under the new three-year sponsorship agreement.

Mrs Barnett said the sponsorship marks an exciting new chapter for the event, which has brought together thousands of islanders since its inception and raised over £100,000 for Cancer Research UK – Guernsey Branch.

“I am absolutely thrilled and truly grateful for BWCI’s generosity and commitment. Their support enables us to take the event to the next level, reaching even more people and raising vital funds for cancer research. This new partnership ensures the future of Our Race for Life in Guernsey and Sark, and I can’t wait to see where we can go together.”

Mike Freer, Senior Manager Business Development, BWCI, added: “We are delighted to partner with Our Race for Life for the next three years. Supporting the local community and such a meaningful cause aligns with our values, and we’re proud to play our part in helping this event continue to inspire and bring people together.”

The committee wanted to also acknowledge the ongoing support of Bright Electrical, who have been behind the event since its inception in 2022 and whose contribution has been invaluable in helping Our Race for Life grow year after year.

The next BWCI Race for Life will take place on Sunday 17 May 2026, with registrations opening early next year. A brand-new event website will also be launched soon.
