In order to provide activity for its members and islanders in general, The National Trust for Jersey has created an on-line ‘Activity hub’ which contains a range of self-guided walks and a host of children’s activities, both indoor and outdoor, linked to nature and the natural environment that families and households can do during the Coronavirus pandemic and the current ‘lock-down’ in the Island.
Children and adults, can learn how to create wildlife havens, learn about sea shells, blossom, birds and butterflies, how to build a bee hotel and make ‘wild art’ and a host of other crafts and activities. They can also undertake ‘virtual’ rock pool rambles, bug safaris, pond dipping and become a ‘Nature Detective’ by downloading a range of activity booklets that should keep them occupied over the coming weeks.
The walks include trails to and past National Trust properties such as a heritage trail around St Lawrence passing Hamptonne, Le Rât and Morel Farm, scenic walks around La Vallette above Bonne Nuit Bay, Le Moulin de Quétivel and Tesson Mill in St Peter’s Valley and coastal walks around Col de la Rocque and Noirmont and Portelet. Other offerings include a circular trail around Les Mielles and a range of short walks in and around St Clement, Plémont, Gorey and St Mary which take only an hour to complete. Children can also enjoy some self-guided trails around St Ouen and the ‘Toad’ Trail in Hamptonne woods – Le Don Sinkins.
The walks have been developed by The Trust and its small army of supporters including Blue Badge Guides Sue Hardy and Nicky Mansell and environmentalists, Bob Tompkins and Neil and Alli Singleton.
The Trust maintains an extensive network of footpaths through a range of natural habitats for the public to enjoy and encourages everyone to explore the Island's spectacular wildlife, history and heritage within the current restrictions.
