Channel Islands Co-operative Society up for Co-operative of the Year award

Thursday 04 June 2015

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society has been shortlisted for the Co-operative of the Year Award.

The Society is one of nine co-operatives across the UK in the running for the prestigious title; other shortlisted nominees include producers, a football club and foster carers.

"We are thrilled to have been nominated as the calibre of the nominations is very high and includes a list of very successful co-operatives across the UK. Our Society in the Channel Islands thrives because of its 100,000-plus loyal Members and more than 1,000 staff colleagues. We are very proud as it’s thanks to them that we have been nominated," said the society’s Chief Executive Colin Macleod.

The shortlisted co-operatives were chosen from a field of 65 nominees.

This year, for the first time, Co-operatives UK is asking co-operatives and their members to decide which is the UK’s best co-operative.

"At The Channel Islands Co-operative Society we are all about giving back and keeping money in the local economy. Last year we returned £8m to our members and sustained a member dividend of 4% during the most turbulent trading conditions in a generation. I am extremely proud of our staff colleagues and grateful to our loyal members who help us foster an environment that dares and cares," added Mr Macleod.

Voting is open now and will remain live until Friday 19 June. Winners will be announced on Friday 26 June at Birmingham Town Hall.

Votes can be cast at www.uk.coop/coopoftheyear.
