The Institute of Accountants England and Wales have approved the formation of a council seat for the Crown Dependencies.
This resolution to extend to Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man was voted on by ICAEW Council and the ICAEW Council resolved, by a clear majority, to approve:
The formation of two new Communities for the Crown Dependencies of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man respectively, with a single electoral Council constituency established to represent them; and that the implications of this change to the Electoral Regulations and Council Constituencies, specifically London and Liverpool, be considered and approved by the Nominating Committee.
ICAEW members in the Channel Islands had previously been represented by a London council member.
“We hope you will agree that this change is a positive step forward and we are sure that the members based on the islands will experience closer relations with ICAEW as a result of this,” the ICAEW said:
Catherine Watson, Chair of the Training and Marketing JSCCA Sub-Committee, commented: “We are delighted to announce for the first time in history, ICAEW will be holding Council elections for the newly-created constituency of the Crown Dependencies, comprising the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, which will see a member taking a seat on ICAEW Council. This has required a change in the constitution but one we are proud that has been approved and ensuring that as the crown dependencies we have representation.”
Steve Hunt, President of the JSCCA, added: “Our strong relationship with all institutes is one we are proud of and the new council seat with the ICAEW is testament to the ICAEW of ensuring that the Crown Dependencies are involved at a national level on key industry, government and practice developments. Ahead of our October annual CPD conference this is welcomed news and one I am delighted has been approved; thank you to Catherine Watson, for her drive in making this change for the benefit of the island and our members.”
Anyone wishing to stand for the council seat should submit applications to the ICAEW directly online.
