Waitrose helps spread Christmas cheer within local community

Waitrose will be helping to provide for the local community this Christmas.

This year, the three Waitrose branches have shared £3000 from their Community Matters green token scheme to a range of local community groups, supporting them with their Christmas activities.

The St Helier branch has shared its £1000 with the Salvation Army, the Jersey Christmas Walk and the Jersey Christmas Appeal. The Red Houses branch has supported the Parish of St Brelade’s Christmas Fayre, the Caring Cooks of Jersey and the Jersey Centre for Separated Families while the St Saviour branch has supported the Jersey Red Cross, the Grace Trust and the Women’s Refuge.

Waitrose will be supporting a variety of events across the UK, with thousands of people set to benefit. At this sociable time of the year, the campaign is aimed supporting those who would otherwise be on their own at Christmas.

As well as supporting organisations through their community matters scheme, the branches will be supporting the community in other ways.

The St Saviour branch is supporting the Salvation Army’s Christmas Dinner at the St Saviour Parish Hall for around 75 people where a take home tea pack will be given to all attendees.

The St Helier branch also hosted a Christmas sing-a-long on 10 December for Partners and customers, raising more than £202 for the local Jersey Mencap branch.

Waitrose branch manager for St Saviour, Duncan Langston, said: “It is fantastic that our Waitrose branches are supporting so many organisations over the Christmas period.

“Our Partners are really excited about the various events that they will be assisting with, spreading a little Christmas cheer within the island and making a difference to those who would otherwise be alone or need a little extra support at this time of year.”
